The news from YouTube is a lot of little but important information you will need to make your YouTube channel successful. Let’s dive into it!
Bye Classic Studio (for real this time)
The option to select Classic Studio when uploading a video is starting to be removed from channels. Studio Beta is to become the only way to upload new videos so if there are any features from Classic you want that are not in the new Studio, please email YouTube to request they add them in.
Lock It Down
One of the worst things that could happen to a creator’s YouTube channel is it being hijacked. Please make sure to enable 2-Step Verification to your channel to help secure your channel better. If you have any admins on your channel make sure they do this as well.
Here is how to enable it: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839
🙅♂️ Nicotine and THC Policy Update 🙅♀️
YouTube is adding more restrictions on the promotion of products that have Nicotine and THC, which includes vaping. This will be age restricted with the exception of it being educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic. This is important to pay attention to as a creator because if you are highlighting a lifestyle that includes Nicotine, THC, or vaping and not telling YouTube that your content contains this activity it can affect your adsense and complicate your placement with the algorithm.

No Fake Clicks For Non-Profits
No matter how good intentioned it maybe, encouraging your viewers to click on ads for your videos to help get more money for your channel or another’s channel goes against YouTube's Fake Engagement Policy. While YouTube understands that even if it is being done to help non-profits, it is against their terms of service and can get your channel shut down. So don’t do it and don’t tell others to do it.
Live Streaming Entry Point
One of the common complaints is that it is hard to find new Live Streams to watch. YouTube has added a new way to find Lives in the Mobile App. When you select the Explore tab on your mobile device, you will now see a Live category to choose from. This is a really great update for those of you who go live regularly to get new viewers.
YouTube Stories Update
YouTube is removing the Stories tab on creators channels do to low usage. These efforts will be redirected to make more Story features. Less than 1% of Story views came from this tab so this will not affect views of stories for your channel. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t even know this feature even existed, but I am excited for more Story features!
More Adsense Control
If there are any ads you do NOT want to be played on your channel you can block them in your Ad Sense Account under preferences > blocking control tab. YouTube advises blocking the top level or master domain like www.abc.com vs specific links as well categorizes or topics. Note that this could reduce your revenue, so don’t make this decision lightly.
